Stade Francais reach last eight
Pool 1 Glasgow Caledonians 15-30 Stade Francais French international Christophe Dominici scored two first-half tries as Stade Francais secured the first away win in Pool One of the European Cup. The winger took advantage of some woeful defending from Glasgow Caledonians to secure a victory which puts them through to the quarter-finals ahead of their hosts, Leicester and Leinster. Glasgow had needed to win by 52 points to give themselves any hope of qualification. Glenn Metcalfe hit back for Glasgow after Dominici's opener but with Tommy Hayes' missing several kicks, a big total never looked likely. Front rower Fabrice Landreau touched down before more good work from the French pack saw Dominici get his second with a push over try. De Villiers was shoved over the corner for Stade's fourth touchdown as the pressure finally told. Match summary:
Glasgow Caledonians (10) 15.
Pool 3:
Bourgoin went out of the Heineken Cup in a blaze of glory as they grabbed their first away win in the tournament at the home of the reigning champions. The French side ran in five tries as they erased an early 10-point deficit to leave Ulster firmly rooted to the bottom of Pool 3 without a win in their defence of the title. Tyrone Howe ran in a try but the visitors responsed with two tries in the space of five minutes from outside half Benjamin Boyet and wing Jean-Francois Coux. Within 15 minutes of the re-start Bourgoin had snapped-up two more tries, Coux getting a second and skipper Pierre Raschi going over, to take the lead for the first time. The French piled on the pressure and Stephane Glas and Laurnet Giolitti grabbed two more tries to complete the rout. Howe's second try four minutes from time brought Ulster back to within one score at 27-33, but a Mark McKenzie penalty made victory safe for Bourgoin, who end their campaign second from bottom. Match summary:
Ulster (16) 27.
