Dodds digs deep in Dunhill
Namibia's Trevor Dodds produced a marathon effort to move two shots clear of the field in the rain-hit Alfred Dunhill Championship in Johannesburg. Dodds shot a seven-under-par 65 to finish at the top of an incomplete second round leaderboard. In all he was forced to play 32 holes on Friday, after rain restricted him to just four on the first day. The weather again intervened and play had to be suspended for just over an hour because of waterlogged greens.
In the morning Dodds carded a 69 to move one behind leading British trio Brian Davis, Peter Baker and Paul Broadhurst, and he stepped up the pace in his second round to take the lead.
"At my age playing 32 holes in one day is pretty tiring," said Dodds. "But I just kept slugging away. "We were lucky we didn't have any heavy rain as was the case with some of the groups." Health scare Dodds's last victory was in the 1998 Greater Greensboro Classic on the PGA Tour shortly after his recovery from testicular cancer. "My health has been good. I go for check-ups every six months and I just make sure I do what they tell me," said Dodds. Englishman Anthony Wall followed up his first round 69 with a 67 to trail Dodds by two shots. Baker and Broadhurst finished the day at six under, four off the pace after both carded 70s. Leading completed second round scores:
