Brazilian rivals vie to be greatest The final of football's first world club championship takes place later today in Brazil, with two Brazilian sides vying for the title of the world's best team. Corinthians of Sao Paulo and Vasco da Gama from Rio de Janeiro won through in the eight-club tournament, which brought together sides from Latin America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. They'll play in Rio's Maracana stadium, where fans queued for hours on Thursday to buy tickets. Correspondents say that the game is set to be a classic encounter between the representatives of Brazil's two main cities, which have a fierce rivalry and very different lifestyles: industrial, money-conscious Sao Paulo and beautiful, party-loving Rio. Spain's Real Madrid and Necaxa compete for third place . From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
