Ginger staff set for windfall
Media mogul Chris Evans has promised to give his staff £2m of the personal payout he will receive when Ginger Media merges with the Scottish Media Group, company insiders have confirmed. The windfall, to be shared among 140 Ginger Media employees from directors on around £500,000 a year to office staff, will amount to an extra 10% of each individual's salary.
The bonuses will be paid out once the £225m deal is finalised in the
next few months.
Following the deal's announcement, Chris Evans reportedly told the Sun newspaper on Thursday he would give away every penny he earns from now on. "When you've got this much money you can't spend it all," he said. "Obscene is definitely the right word for it," he added. Jubilant employees Every full-time member of staff from Ginger Media has been promised cash, it is understood. The bonus was announced during an informal staff meeting yesterday at the Midas Touch bar, close to Chris Evans' Virgin Radio office in Soho, central London. Jubilant employees celebrated the good news with an all-night party. Evans, 32, is to receive £75m in cash and shares - £58m is to be paid out when the deal goes through and the remainder will be handed out over three years. The rest of the merger payout will be divided between Ginger's other investors and used to pay off the firm's debts. The deal with SMG will boost Evans' personal fortune from £30 million to £88 million. |
