India and Pakistan in counterfeiting row Pakistan has lodged a formal protest to India after a member of the Pakistani High Commission in Delhi was accused of using fake Indian currency to pay school fees. Indian police say they are investigating the matter. The BBC Delhi correspondent says Pakistan denies any involvement in the widespread counterfeiting of the new Indian five-hundred-rupee note -- but he says the latest row can only further harm already bitter relations. Less than two weeks ago a Pakistani diplomat was expelled from Nepal after being detained in connection with a counterfeit currency deal. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
