Malaysian opposition figures plead not guilty

Two Malaysian opposition figures and the lawyer acting for Anwar Ibrahim, the jailed former deputy prime minister, have pleaded not guilty to charges levelled against them in courts in Kuala Lumpur.

The lawyer, Karpal Singh, and an opposition leader, Marina Yusoff, were accused of making seditious remarks.

Another senior opposition figure, Mohamed Ezam Mohamed Nor, was charged with violating the officials secrets act.

Malaysian lawyers say they are considering holding a special meeting to consider the implications of the charge against Karpal Singh, whose allegedly seditious remarks were made in court during his defence of Mr Anwar.
