Bosnian Croats sentenced for war crimes

The International War Crimes Tribunal in the Hague has convicted five former Bosnian Croat militiamen for the massacre of at least one hundred Muslim men, women and children in a village Ahmici in central Bosnia in 1993.

They were sentenced to between six and twenty-five years in prison.

A sixth defendant was acquitted.

The presiding judge Antonio Cassese said the killings were a vicious illustration of man's inhumanity to man, but he said the court had not tried those who ordered and planned the massacre.
