Hoteliers angered by promenade plans
Hoteliers at a north Wales seaside resort are considering going to the High Court to halt plans to close off part of the town's promenade. The Llandudno Hotel and Restaurants Association says the scheme will affect their businesses. Members are holding a meeting on Friday with Conwy council's chief executive Derek Barker to persuade him to stop the project.
Hoteliers say if they do not get a result out of the meeting, they will apply for a judicial review to stop the work. The project in question is part of a £2.5m lottery-funded scheme to make Llandudno a garden resort. Work is due to start on Monday to turn Prince Edward Square, near the town's Cenotaph, into a garden area. Consultation But hoteliers say the council has not carried out a proper consultation process before approving the latest phase. They say the Prince Edward Square scheme will result in the loss of 30 free parking spaces for hotel guests, which would hit hotel businesses. They are also angry that the work is scheduled to take place from now until the last week in May, a period covering the first three spring bank holidays. |
