Doctor struck off for indecency

GMC building The General Medical Council said Dr Rahim was "predatory"

A doctor who exposed himself to a 16-year-old hospital clerk and harassed a female colleague has been struck off the medical register.

The General Medical Council's Professional Conduct Committee described the behaviour of Dr Abdel Moneim Mohd Reali Abdel Rahim as "disgusting and predatory".

The hearing in London was told that Dr Rahim was convicted of two charges by magistrates last year after incidents were reported to the police.

Dr Matthew Lohn told the GMC committee that the teenage victim was confronted by the doctor at East Glamorgan Hospital in Church Village near Pontypridd.

Indecent incident

Dr Rahim exposed himself after asking the girl to do some photocopying.

She later reported the incident to the police.

The second incident involved a female doctor who also worked at East Glamorgan.

The hearing was told that Dr Rahim had offered to give the woman a lift to the airport to catch a holiday flight.

It was claimed that he turned up at her accommodation and opened his trousers.

When the female doctor returned from her holiday she contacted police about his behaviour.

The GMC was unable to contact Rahim, who had notified them that he had retired and was living in Sudan.

Sir Donald Irvine, president of the GMC and chairman of the committee, condemned the incidents.

"We have concluded that Dr Abdel Rahim is not fit to be entrusted with the responsibilities of a registered medical practitioner," he said.
