Team profile: Burkina Faso
At the last Nations Cup, the Stallions appeared to be a new force in African football.
Despite their being hosts, no-one gave Burkina Faso much of a chance, but they surprised everyone by reaching the last four. The question is: Have they built on that success? Their relatively straightforward qualification might suggest so.
But since they got through to the finals, a new coach, Rene Taelman, has taken over, and he has made some radical changes to the team. With few full-time professionals to call on, Taelman tries to make a virtue of his band of largely local players. He argues it is much better to have a team that works as a unit, rather than a collection of talented individuals. But the coach is also realistic, saying that at this stage his goal is getting through to the quarter-finals.
