Team profile: Togo

The people of Togo will feel Nations Cup fever all around them.

The little west African nation sits between the two hosts, Ghana and Nigeria, and the distance from the capital city, Lome, to where they play their matches in Accra in Ghana is just 165 km.

The Hawks

On the pitch, the Togolese also know how to get in among the big boys.

At Burkina '98 they created one of the upsets of the finals by beating Ghana in a dramatic finale to an exciting group game.

With the scores at 1-1, substitute Cougbadja squeezed in a remarkable 90th minute winner to record their first ever victory in a match in these finals.

Nations Cup record
Never reached last four

To qualify this time the Togolese have also had to hold off some nations of greater stature; ultimately a draw in Morocco and a 2-0 home victory over Guinea helped secure their place at what will be their fourth finals.

But missing this time will be some of the heroes of the victory over Ghana in '98.

Goalkeeper Nibombe Wake is unlikely to start as his nation's number one.

That mantle has been passed to 22-year-old Kossi Agassa, while in attack the much respected Bachiron Salou says he will not play for his country, but will stay in Europe and play for his club, Eintracht Frankfurt of Germany.
