Hillary Clinton does Letterman
Hillary Clinton has tried to give her campaign in the New York Senate race a boost by appearing on one of US television's most popular talk shows. Chat show host David Letterman has been a harsh critic of Mrs Clinton's, saying she is a carpet-bagger with few real connections to New York.
Dealing with charges that she was an outsider with little connection to New York, she said she had always planned to move to the state after leaving the White House.
"New York has always attracted people from all over the world. That's what makes it such a great place to live." Asked about the fate of Cuban boy Elian Gonzalez, she avoided making a clear-cut judgement, saying that both his mother's wish for him to come to the US and his relationship with his father in Cuba needed to be considered.
Mr Giuliani, asked whether he would be watching Mrs Clinton's appearance, said that he often did watch David Letterman, but remained vague about whether he would be tuning in to see the First Lady.
