Colombian police detain Garzon suspect The authorities in Colombia have arrested an alleged gunman in connection with the shooting last year of the country's most famous comedian, Jaime Garzon. The Attorney General, Alfonso Gomez, said the suspect, Juan Pablo Ortiz, was detained over the weekend in the city of Medellin, north of the capital, Bogota. Mr Garzon's killing last August caused public outrage. Investigators said it was a professional assassination possibly carried out in retaliation for his work in support of the country's peace process. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
