Labour selects by-election candidate
The Labour Party has chosen Maria Battle as its candidate to fight the Parliamentary seat of Ceredigion. Ms Battle previously stood in the Ceredigion Assembly election and came second. The 42-year-old director for Age Concern in Ceredigion and she's been a solicitor for 18 years, specialising in legislation for children's rights.
She is a Welsh learner and is an experienced local campaigner but has not held political office in the past.
Plaid Cymru called upon Parliament to announce a by-election after the resignation of Cynog Dafis from the seat. Mr Dafis has decided to focus his energies on his role as an Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales. Two other Plaid MPs, Ieuan Wyn Jones and Dafydd Wigley, are also likely to make decisions on their own Parliamentary futures. The party has chosen Simon Thomas, 36, from the Cynon Valley as its Parliamentary candidate in Ceredigion. The Conservatives are set to select their own candidate on Sunday while the Liberal Democrats are also due to announce their candidate shortly. |
