Campbell may face FA charge Spurs defender Sol Campbell could face a new investigation into an incident involving a steward at Derby last season. The England international was charged with assault in April last year, but the court case was discontinued last July. Details of the alleged fracas with a Pride Park steward in October 1998 have now been passed to the Football Association who will judge whether Campbell must face a disrepute charge. "We requested the documentation from Derby police which we received two weeks ago," said an FA spokesman. "We are going through it and will make an announcement soon."
Hopkin facing three match ban Leeds midfielder David Hopkin returned from injury in a Tuesday night reserve match, but faces another three matches on the sidelines after getting sent off. The Premier Reserve League 1-1 draw with Liverpool was the Scottish international's first match in more than two months because of groin surgery. He was dismissed for violent conduct following a first-half bust-up with David Thompson. If Hopkin is suspended for the three games then he will miss the FA Cup fifth-round tie at Aston Villa, and Premiership games with Liverpool and Spurs. Centre back Robert Molenaar came through the full 90 minutes in his first match back for 13 months following a cruciate ligament injury.
Lomas charged by FA The FA misconduct charge against West Ham skipper Steve Lomas will be heard on Friday. Lomas was reported for alleged remarks made to referee Mike Riley following the goalless draw at Chelsea on 7 November. The match finished in acrimony following the sending off of West Ham's Chilean defender Javier Margas. Northern Ireland international Lomas has requested a personal hearing and it is expected that West Ham manager Harry Redknapp will also speak on his behalf. Meanwhile the West Ham boss is trying to land at least one Nationwide League striker on loan. The club have a injury crisis up front ahead of Saturday's Premiership game with Aston Villa, who knocked the Hammers out of the Worthington Cup on Tuesday. "My biggest problem for Saturday is to try to field 11 players," admitted Redknapp.
Advocaat wanted Laudrup back Rangers manager Dick Advocaat has revealed that he has tried on three occasions to get Brian Laudrup back to Ibrox. The Danish forward spent four years in Glasgow before leaving for Chelsea 18 months ago. Since then he has played for FC Copenhagen and now Ajax. "I still think he is a great player and I spoke to him at the beginning of the season and asked him to come back to Ibrox," said the Dutchman. "I've spoken to him three times about a return and I thought he would choose us because of the lifestyle here."

Newcastle fans given extra fortnight A group of Newcastle supporters who are taking the club to court have been given a further two weeks to raise funds for the legal battle. The campaign group SOS - Save Our Seats - wad formed after the club announced plans to build executive boxes in seats they say were secured for ten years when they bought a bond from the club. On Wednesday Mr Justice Hooper, sitting in the High Court at Newcastle, put the hearing date back until 28 February. More than 2,150 bond-holders could be involved in the action, while up to 900 have already expressed interest in litigation. The club argues that the bonds only entitle them to a seat in the ground - but do not guarantee them the same seat. The campaigners have £65,000 but need another £35,000 to cover Newcastle United's costs should the club win the case.
