Corruption charge against Indian politician dropped

A corruption case against the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, known as Jayalalitha, has been dismissed by a High Court in the southern Indian state due to lack of evidence.

The case involved the sale of government land to a private firm owned by Jayalalitha during her term of office between l991 and 1997.

Although there are still several corruption cases pending against Jayalalitha, the dismissal of this case is seen as significant by her supporters. It comes a day after a former legislator of Jayalalitha's AIADMK party was jailed for seven years on corruptionchharges.
