The government of Bangladesh has decided to give a general amnesty for members of the Shanti Bahini rebel group from the Chittagong Hill Tracts who surrender their arms.
A spokesman for the Hill Tracts national Committee, Kalpo Ranjo Chakma, said that under the terms of the amnesty no criminal charges would be brought against them.
Last month the government and the tribal rebels signed a peace treaty to end more than two decades of armed conflict in the south-east of the country.
Six hundred Shanti Bahini members are due to surrender their arms next month at a ceremony to be attended by the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina.
