Kenya election result challenged

The runner-up in last month's presidentiasl election in Kenya, Mwai Kibaki, has filed a petition with the High Court challenging the validity of the poll.

The election was won by President Daniel Arap Moi.

Mr Kibaki, who heads the opposition Democratic Party, alleges that the election was not conducted in accordance with the Consitution and has called for a recount.

President Moi, who was voted in for his fifth term in office, received 2.5 million votes.

Mr Kibaki received 1.9 million votes.
