Three accused of fixing Vietnamese football

The authorities in Vietnam say two bookmakers and a former football star have been arrested on charges of fixing matches during last year's national soccerchampionships.

Police say the three took part in illegal gambling and tried to persuade players to fix the results of at least nine matches.

The former footballer alleged to be involved Tran Minh Trung was a player with the Ho Chi Minh City Customs team.

Correspondents say that although betting on sports is officially illegal in Vietnam, bookmakers and gambling houses take bets on most games.
