Fiat chairman facing corruption charges says he'll step down in June
The chairman of the Italian car manufacturer Fiat, Cesare Romiti, has announced that he is retiring in June. The announcement comes less than a week after Mr Romiti was ordered to stand trial in connection with allegations that Fiat paid bribes to secure contracts for the Rome underground railway. But Mr Romiti said he was simply confirming the news he gave two years ago when he said he would leave before his seventy-fifth birthday on June the 24th. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
