Ethnic Albanian leader in Kosovo urges international action

The leader of the ethnic Albanian majority in the Serbian province of Kosovo, Ibrahim Rugova, has called on the international community to take urgent action to prevent further violence in the province.

His appeal at a news conference in the capital, Pristina, came after Serbian state radio reported the death of a Serb whose body had been found riddled with bullets near a stronghold of ethnic Albanian nationalists.

No one has acknowledged responsibility for the latest shooting, which is believed to have been in retaliation for a Serb police attack on Thursday in which one ethnic Albanian was killed and two were injured.
