Clinton faces new charges over sex allegations

Reports from Washington say the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the FBI, has obtained evidence implicating President Clinton in new allegations of sexual misconduct.

The Washington Post newspaper says the FBI made secret recordings of a conversation in which a White House employee -- Monica Lewinsky -- told a friend that the President had asked her to lie about their affair.

Mr Clinton has denied having a sexual relationship with Miss Lewinsky.

An independent prosecutor, Kenneth Starr, who is already looking into Mr Clinton's financial affairs, has widened his investigations to include the latest allegations.

The government's chief law officer the Attorney General, Janet Reno has declined to comment; Mr Starr is holding a news conference in Washington shortly.
