Bosnian Serb war crimes suspect arrested
Nato-led forces in Bosnia Hercegovina have arrested a Bosnian Serb suspected of having been involved in genocide -- the most serious charge under the International War Crimes Tribunal in the Hague. The suspect, Goran Jelisic, is accused of personal involvement in the murder of at least fourteen Muslim prisoners when he was commander of the Luka camp near the Bosnian town of Brcko. Prosecutors say hundreds of Muslim and Croat inmates were killed at the camp -- one of the most notorious in the country. The arrest is the fifth by Nato-led troops since last July, and it brings the number of people in detention to twenty. Fifty-four suspects are still at large, among them the former leader of the Bosnian Serbs, Radovan Karadzic. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
