Four policemen expelled for torturing detainee

Police in Chile have expelled four officers in connection with the torture of a man in police custody earlier this month.

A police spokesman said there were signs that unnecesary violence had been used on the man Raul Palma, who later died.

The government has promised a full investigation.

He was the first confirmed victim of torture by the authorities since Chile returned to democratic rule eight years ago.
