Congo crocodiles kill twenty people
State radio in the Democratic Republic of Congo says crocodiles have killed twenty people in the aftermath of floods on a tributary of the Zaire river some two hundred kilometres north-east of the capital Kinshasa. It said the crocodiles were apparently capable of leaving their natural habitat on the Buma river to chase farmers in nearby fields. The radio said the crocodiles may have been settling scores with villagers who hunt them for their meat. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
