New opposition party launched in Cambodia
A former top Cambodian communist leader, Pen Sovvan, has launched a new opposition party ahead of forthcoming elections in Cambodia. Mr Sovann said the priority for his Cambodian National Sustaining Party would be national reconciliation. Mr Sovann was a member of the Vietnamese backed government installed in 1979 but was later jailed in Vietnam. He returned to Cambodia last month. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
