Indonesian currency falls to new low

The Indonesian currency, the rupiah, has fallen to a new low against the dollar.

By mid-afternoon, the rupiah had dropped to around twelve thousand to the dollar.

Dealers said one of the factors in the fall was concern that President Suharto may choose the controversial Minister for Research and Technology, BJ Habibie, as his running mate in Presidential elections in March.
