Crackdown continues on opposition in Congo
Opposition activists in the Democratic Republic of Congo say soldiers have arrested the opposition leader, Joseph Olenghankoy, in a raid on his party headquarters in Kinshasa. The government has not confirmed the arrest, but earlier this week it warned that anyone breaking its ban on political activity would be brought before military courts. Mr Olenghankoy was briefly arrested last September after calling for the late President Mobutu to be given a state funeral. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
