Burma and Thailand renew border dispute

Burmese troops have occupied an island in the Moei River which is disputed with Thailand.

Reports say fifty armed soldiers with a tractor seized the island to prevent Thai surveyors carrying out work to reclaim land on the Thai side of the river.

There have been a series of border disputes between Burma and Thailand relating to the Moei River since last year when its course was changed by flooding.
