Burma and Thailand renew border dispute
Burmese troops have occupied an island in the Moei River which is disputed with Thailand. Reports say fifty armed soldiers with a tractor seized the island to prevent Thai surveyors carrying out work to reclaim land on the Thai side of the river. There have been a series of border disputes between Burma and Thailand relating to the Moei River since last year when its course was changed by flooding. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
