Rwanda's Kagame in Belgium
The Rwandan Vice President and Defence Minister, Paul Kagame, is in Brussels, where he is holding talks with the Belgian Prime Minister, Jean-Luc Dehaene, and with senior European Union officials. General Kagame said he was keen to revive and strengthen cooperation between Rwanda and the EU. He added that his visit to Belgium -- the former colonial power in Rwanda -- was not aimed at resolving the issue of genocide suspects currently living in Belgium. Questioned on the killings in the north-west of the country, General Kagame said that while the army faced serious security problems there, the rest of the country was calm.
