Costa Rica to extradite Brazilian fraudster

A court in Costa Rica has granted a Brazilian request to extradite a lawyer convicted of a multi-million dollar fraud.

The lawyer, Jorgina Maria de Freitas Fernandez, was sentenced to fourteen years in jail in her absence, for fraud against the Brazilian social security institute involving more than one-hundred-million dollars.

She surrendered to the Costa Rican police two months ago.

Her lawyers say they will appeal the court's decision.

The Brazilian President, Fernando Henrique Cardoso, welcomed the court ruling.
