Unemployed occupy Paris restaurant
In the latest of a series of protests by unemployed people in France, about 80 protestors briefly occupied an upmarket restaurant on the Champs-Elysees in Paris. Riot police called in to expel the demonstrators detained the group, but released all of them in the early hours of today. Demonstrators have been pressing for higher welfare benefits for the unemployed. Yesterday, about forty unemployed protestors ended a five-day occupation of a leading higher-education college in Paris, and on Saturday, tens-of-thousands of people took part in protest marches throughout France.
