Suharto to stand again in Indonesia
President Suharto of Indonesia has formally accepted the nomination of the governing Golkar Party to stand for a seventh term in office in the presidential election in March. Indonesia, along with other countries in Asia, is in the grip of a severe economic crisis and there have been calls for President Suharto, who is seventy-six, to step down. But correspondents say the President remains firmly in control of the government and is likely to win the election as it is decided by a special assembly dominated by his supporters.
