EL Salvador and Honduras sign agreement to end border dispute
After two years of negotiations, El Salvador and Honduras have signed an agreement to put an end to a border dispute dating back more than two hundred years. The formal signing by the leaders of both countries follows an agreement last week to demarcate a three-hundred-and seventy kilometre stretch of border within the year. The agreement also covers issues of property rights and nationality. In 1992, the International Court of Justice in The Hague passed a ruling which left twelve thousand Salvadoreans on land assigned to Honduras, and three thousand Hondurans in Salvadorean territory.
