New Montenegrin President names premier

The newly-installed President of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, has nominated a close political ally as the republic's new prime minister.

The nominee - Filip Vujanovic - has been interior minister since 1995.

Mr Vujanovic supported the new president during his recent power-struggle with his predecessor, Momir Bulatovic.

Mr Vujanovic says he will set up a multi-party government to prepare elections in the spring.

Meanwhile, the independent Montenegrin news agency Montena-fax has reported that at least twenty people have been arrested for taking part in last Wednesday's demonstrations against Mr Djukanovic.
