Hostage freed by rebels in India's north-east
Seperatist rebels in India's north-eastern state of Tripura have released a politician held hostage since October. The politician, Purno Mohan Tripura, from the state's ruling Left Front, was kidnapped by members of the outlawed National Liberation Front. Police say that Mr Tripura told them he was held in a jungle hide-out on the India-Bangladesh border. It's unclear whether any ransom was paid for his release. Another Left Front politican, kidnapped by seperatist rebels in July, is still missing. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
