Indonesian bank merger creates largest private bank
A number of Indonesian banks say they will merge to create the country's largest private bank. The merger between Bank International Indonesia Bank, Dagang Nasional and three other banks is in line with reforms agreed between President Suharto and the International Monetary Fund to tackle Indonesia's economic crisis. Other bank mergers are expected to follow. The merger will take effect after approval has been given by government and other regulatory bodies. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
