Rwandan Vice-President says executions to go ahead
The Vice-President and Defence Minister of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, has reaffirmed that the authorities intend to execute those found responsible for the genocide of 1994. Last week the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, said during the visit to Rwanda that life imprisonment was not enough and those who planned the massacres should be hanged. Rwanda has more than one-hundred-thousand prisoners awaiting trial on charges related to the mass killlings of Tutsis and moderate Hutus nearly four years ago. But the BBC correspondent in Kigali says many of those who masterminded the killings are either living abroad or awaiting trial before an international tribunal, which won't impose the death penalty.
