Three killed in Bujumbura attack
The Burundi military says three assailants were killed in fighting following an attack on Sunday by about 30 armed Hutu rebels on the Gikongo military post in the northern outskirts of the capital Bujumbura.

"Two soldiers were wounded and three terrorists killed," army spokesman Col Nibizi told Radio France Internationale.

"There were no civilians wounded or killed," he said.

Clashes broke out in the area after the attack because of fears that an offensive was under way against the capital, and the army fired mortars, RFI's correspondent in the area reported.

The clashes continued for about 30 minutes, after which the attackers withdrew into the surrounding hills and the area returned to normal.
