Brazilians get information on organ donation

The Brazilian government has launched an information campaign to win over the public to a new law on organ donations, which came into force at the beginning of the year.

The law stipulates that all Brazilians are automatically potential organ donors - unless they register their opposition on identity cards or driving licences.

The government says the law is needed because of a lack of available organs.

But many Brazilians say they suspect doctors will remove organs before a patient is dead.

The Brazilian Medical Council also fears patients at private hospitals might get easier access to organs.
