Sad wedding for Guatemalan laureate

A joint wedding and burial service has been held in central Guatemala, where the Nobel peace laureate, Rigoberta Menchu, married her husband and buried their premature baby who died last month.

The priest who celebrated the Roman Catholic Mass at her husband's village San Pedro Jocopilas, said it was common among local people to mix sadness and happiness in a single ceremony.

The couple married according to the local Mayan ritual three years ago.

Mrs Menchu was awarded the 1992 Nobel peace prize for her campaign for Indian rights.
