Clinton meets Paula Jones

President Clinton is in his lawyer's office in Washington facing questioning under oath about allegations that he propositioned a woman for sex in a hotel room seven years ago.

The woman - Paula Jones - is present at the hearing, but is not permitted to speak.

She is seeking two-million dollars and an apology from Mr Clinton, who was Governor of Arkansas when the alleged incident is said to have taken place.

Mr Clinton denies the allegations.

His testimony, which could take several hours, may be used if the case goes for trial as scheduled in May.

It's the first time an American president has testified as a defendant.
