Germany warms of looming refugee crisis from Algeria

The German foreign minister, Klaus Kinkel, has said that continuing mass killings in Algeria could prompt a wave of refugees into Europe unless aid for the stricken areas is agreed quickly.

A European Union delegation is to have talks with the government in Algeria on Monday.

In a newspaper interview with the German weekly, Bild am Sonntag, Mr Kinkel said Europe had to consider with the Algerians how to provide immediate help with tents, blankets and food, as well as finding a lasting end to what he called the daily dehumanising terror. )
