Philippines children launch global march against child labour
Hundreds of children in the Philippines have been marching through the capital, Manila, at the start of what's intended to be a huge international campaign against child labour. The plan drawn up by human rights activists is for a global march across five continents, with participants converging after five months on Geneva. That's where the International Labour Organisation is due to meet in June to draw up a new convention on child employment. Some of the participants in today's demonstration in Manila will be flown to Vietnam, from where the march will snake across Asia and into Europe. Similar contingents will make their way across the Americas and Africa. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
