Iraqi Foreign Minister has talks in Iran

The Iraqi Foreign Minister, Muhammad Said al-Sahhaf, who is on a visit to Teheran, has had talks with his Iranian counterpart, Kamal Kharazi.

The Iranian news agency says Mr Sahhaf had expressed the hope that all the problems between Iraq and Iran would be resolved through negotiations.

The agency quoted Mr Kharazi as saying that the resolution of the two nations' disputes would have a positive impact on the entire region.

Since the eight-year war between the neighbours in the 1980s, relations have been troubled by disputes involving prisoners of war and mutual accusations that each country backs armed rebels from the other side.
