Camdessus sees silver lining to Asia's economic gloom

The managing director of the International Monetary Fund, the IMF, says the troubled economies of Asia will emerge stronger than ever in a couple of years -- but first they'll have to apply IMF policies.

The IMF head, Michel Camdessus, was speaking after a day of talks in Malaysia as part of his current tour of the region, which has seen steep falls in share and currency values during the past few months.

Mr Camdessus said he was pretty certain that within the next two years high growth would return to countries like Indonesia and Thailand.
