Men suffering from impotence are not getting the help they need from family doctors, according to a new survey.

The BBC health correspondent Richard Hannaford introduces Anthony Wilkinson (Dur 38")
The Impotence Association found almost 50% of patients questioned said their doctor had been unhelpful.

And nearly a quarter said their GP had taken no action at all.

In the UK it is thought one in ten men suffer from impotence while in America more than a third of males over 40 experience difficulties at some time.

The causes can range from depression and anxiety to heart problems and diabetes.

Many men suffer in silence but the Impotence Association study suggests those who do seek medical help are often unhappy with the way they were dealt with.

Agony uncle Philip Hodson (dur 38")
Philip Hodson, a sex therapist and TV agony uncle, said: "This is not good enough when impotence can now be cured."

Angela Trail, of the Impotence Association, says 95% of cases can be treated.
