Mohamed Al Fayed's club, Fulham, has signed a three-year sponsorship deal with Demon Internet

High-spending Fulham has announced a major shirt sponsorship deal worth £1.5m with Demon Internet.

The agreement with the Internet service provider is for three years starting in July.

The club has set a goal of gaining promotion to the Premiership within five years, recently spending £6m on new players to help it succeed.

On Friday it announced another new signing. Fulham is reported to have paid Sheffield Wednesday £0.5m for the 28-year-old midfielder Wayne Collins.

Kevin Keegan, chief operating officer for Fulham Football Club, said about the deal with Demon: "Anyone who has been online will know that football is booming on the Internet, and we will also be working closely with Demon Internet to exploit this potential.

"As a company at the forefront of one of the fastest growing industries in the world, Demon Internet is a perfect match for the kind of ambition we have at this club.

"Within three years Demon Internet will be a household name, and our plans for growth both on and off the pitch at Fulham will help them to achieve that."

Since the Harrods chief Mohamed Al Fayed paid £30m to buy Fulham in the summer of 1997, the management team of Kevin Keegan and Ray Wilkins has made a number of major player signings to improve the team's fortunes.
