Somali man charged with murder of Italian journalists
A Somali man arrested in Italy this week has been formally charged with the murder of an Italian journalist and her cameraman in Mogadishu in 1994. The man, Hashi Omar Hassan, was detained after flying to Rome at the invitation of the Italian government, to testify on allegations of torture in Somalia by Italian troops in 1993. Elders of his Somali clan have said he's innocent and warned they'll taken action unless he's released. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
