Amnesty International warning to US over mexico violence

The human rights organisation, Amnesty International, has called on the United States Congress to ensure that equipment supplied by the US to Mexico is not being used against suspected opponents of the Mexican government.

An Amnesty spokesman Carlos Salinassaid equipment intended to combat drug trafficking in Mexico could have been used by pro-government paramilitaries in recent attacks on indigenous people in the state of Chiapas.

He also called on the US Congress to hold a hearing on the activities of Mexican military personnel trained by the United States.
